Hoskinson Says He Is Not Leaving Cardano Ecosystem

Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano and chief executive of Input Output, said he is not leaving the Cardano ecosystem, moving to address speculation after a wave of concern from community members and media inquiries. In a June 4 livestream titled “No I’m not leaving,” Hoskinson said he remains involved but plans to step back from public-facing channels while he reflects on Cardano’s direction, governance, community culture and long-term roadmap.

Hoskinson Says He Is Not Leaving Cardano

Hoskinson opened the livestream by directly rejecting claims that he was resigning from Cardano or abandoning the ecosystem. He said the volume of messages he received showed that speculation had spread quickly, including beyond crypto-native circles.

“I wanted to make a quick video to remind everybody that I am okay. I’m not suicidal. I’m not leaving the ecosystem or resigning from Cardano and running around.”

The remarks came after Hoskinson described an increasingly hostile environment on X, where he said meaningful engagement had become difficult. He cited an analysis by Christian Taylor of roughly 130 replies to his posts, which identified 35 as toxic or abusive and flagged possible signs of coordinated targeting, including repeated language patterns and anonymous accounts. Hoskinson said that level of hostility had made the platform unproductive for serious discussion.

He also drew a distinction between Cardano’s technical development and ADA’s market performance, arguing that the ecosystem is experiencing “cognitive dissonance” between protocol progress and price disappointment. Hoskinson said he remains passionate about areas such as financial inclusion, privacy, proofs, Bitcoin programmability and research, but not about treating his role as one focused on driving ADA’s price higher.

“What I’m not passionate about is making the price of ADA go up so that speculators can dump it and go on to the next thing. I’m just not. It’s never been my passion.”

Cardano Founder Plans Break From Public Channels

Hoskinson said he will take time away from public videos, interviews, X and other social channels, while continuing to work on Midnight. He said he had already canceled several interviews and would use the coming period to “reflect and recover,” while also considering proposals for Cardano’s future. He framed the move as a boundary around public engagement rather than a departure from the project.

“I’m going to take a little bit of time away from all these things. I’m going to keep working on midnight. But I’m not going to make videos publicly and I’m not going to do my interviews.”

The Cardano founder said the ecosystem needs to decide what it wants to become, including whether it is centered on research, philosophy and real-world impact, or primarily on short-term market expectations. He called for a new roadmap, improved incentives for builders, and changes in leadership or management where accountability is lacking. Hoskinson was especially critical of structures he views as insufficiently accountable to ADA holders, including the Cardano Foundation’s governance setup.

Hoskinson said he may return with both “radical” and incremental proposals, but emphasized that his continued role depends on whether the community is willing to consider changes. He said Cardano can survive even major leadership changes if the ecosystem remains grounded in a shared vision and constructive participation.

“Cardano is not a protocol. It’s the people behind the protocol. Cardano is not a token. It’s the people behind the token.”

Hoskinson’s message was therefore twofold: he is not leaving Cardano, but he is withdrawing from the public channels he sees as toxic while reassessing how he can contribute. The next phase, as he described it, will depend on whether the Cardano community can agree on a clearer roadmap, more accountable structures and a culture that supports builders without reducing the project solely to ADA’s price performance.
